Academics this week:

Language Arts:

  • Writing/Grammar:   This  week,  students  will  work  on  an  opinion  paragraph  project  regarding  the  virtue  they  feel  is  most  important  to  them.    They will  also  identify  relative  clauses,  pronouns,  and  adverbs

  • Literature: We will continue reading Robin Hood chapters 6-9, focusing on characterization and identifying main ideas and supporting details. Keep up the great work memorizing Paul Revere’s Ride!.

Math: This week in math, we will continue to practice word problems that involve finding the fraction of a set. We will spend Wednesday and Thursday reviewing the operations of fractions in preparation for the unit test on Friday.

Science: We will continue our chemistry unit. Students will continue to discuss chemical and physical properties and concepts of volume, density and mass.

History: In history this week we move our Middle Ages study focus to the growth of Islam. For the past 2 months we have focused solely on the growth of Christianity and European kingdoms. During this same time Islam was growing in the Middle East, Asia, and Northern Africa. These empires would begin to rival the Christian nations we have focused on. Students will be comparing and contrasting Christianity and Islam to better understand the ideological and cultural similarities and differences between these two as they relate to the Middle Ages. Students will also begin to explore Islam including the 5 Pillars of Islam, and the growth of Islam. This unit provides students a great chance to better understand the global world they live in and better understand one of the major religions of the world.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

4th Grade Team
