Dear 4th Grade Parents,

We are already at the last full week on Quarter 2! It is hard to believe that we are almost halfway through the year. We have an exciting week coming up, and we know students are eager for Winter Break. We want to remind everyone that while break is just around the corner we do plan on having curriculum packed days this week and on Monday and Tuesday next week. We would like to make sure students continue to arrive ready to learn each day and recognize that these days are very important.  We will have our Middle Ages Celebration on Wednesday 12/19. More information will be sent out shortly.

Upcoming dates
  • Dec 11
    • Teacher Appreciation Luncheon
    • Parent Positive Painting Party
  • Dec. 17-19 - Early Dismissal
  • December 19th Middle Ages Celebration (More information coming soon)
  • Dec. 20- Jan. 4 - Winter Break

Academics this week:

Language Arts:

  • Writing/Grammar:  Students will continue to write a paragraph reflecting on virtue. Students will also revisit effective summary strategies.

  • Literature: We will continue to read Robin Hoof this week. We will focus on main ideas and theme in chapters 11-14.

Math: This week in math, we will spend time reviewing everything we have learned in 4th grade so far. We’ll practice estimating and rounding, the four operations of whole numbers, and finding factors and multiples. We’ll also review fraction concepts, such as finding equivalent fractions, simplifying fractions, and adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions. We won’t be using the workbooks for homework this week, but expect to see some review homework each night at home.

Science: This week we will focus on the structure of an atom and the different proposed models of atoms throughout history. We will also begin learning about the periodic table of elements.

History: This week we will continue our study of the Middle Ages and focus on the growing Islamic Empire and how this growing empire began to compete with the Byzantine Empire and Eastern Europe. We will study impact Islamic culture had on architecture, math and language and culminate with the Crusades.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

4th Grade Team
