Dear 4th Grade Parents,

We are excited for another week of great lessons and continuing to build our classroom culture that fosters a love for truth, goodness, and beauty. This week we will begin Wizard of Oz please ensure your child brings this book with them to school on Monday.

Upcoming Dates:
  • Jan 22 - Parent Positive: Nutrition and Kids, The Struggle is Real
  • Jan 25 - Birthday Book Club for January birthdays
  • Feb 9 - Daddy Daughter Dance

Academics this week:

Language Arts:

  • Writing/Grammar:  This week, students will work on writing stamina skills. Additionally, students will continue to practice diagramming skills including helping verbs, pronouns, And direct objects
.

  • Literature: Students will discuss and practice language of the setting in Wizard of Oz. We will also review our lesson on inferences.


Math: This week in math, we will finish our unit on measurement. The test has been moved to this Tuesday, to allow one extra day for review. On Thursday, we will start a new unit about decimals.

Science: This week we will continue our meteorology unit. We will focus on the water cycle, fog and weather.

History:  We will finish out African Kingdoms unit this week with a quiz on Friday. We will study the Songhai empire and the travels of Ibn Battuta.

Dear 4th Grade Parents,

We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend. We are already heading into the 3rd week on quarter 3 and we are starting 2 new units this week. Meteorology and we will also be starting the Wizard of Oz.

Academics this week:

Language Arts:

  • Writing/Grammar:  This week, students will learn how to diagram sentences with multiple adjectives
and adverbs they will also take part in a School wide writing day on Wednesday.



  • Literature: This week in literature, we will begin reading Wizard of Oz. Remember to bring in your book! Your final writing project for Robin Hood is due on Wednesday, Jan. 23rd. We will also learn how to draw inferences from a text.


Math: This week in math, we’ll finish up our unit on measurement by learning how to find the fraction of a whole measurement. On Friday, we’ll review the unit, and the unit test will be on Monday, January 28.

Science: This week we will begin our study of meteorology by beginning with the water cycle.

History: In history this week we will continue our unit on African kingdoms. We will study Mansa Musa, his pilgrimage as well as the Songhai Kingdom.

Dear 4th Grade Parents,

We hope you all had a wonderful and restful weekend. It was a pleasure seeing everyone at conferences and we are excited for your continued partnership.

Academics this week:

Language Arts:

  • Writing/Grammar:  This week, we will continue to review parts of speech and will learn how to diagram a sentence including nouns, verbs, and adjectives.


  • Literature: This week in literature, we will continue and finish reading Robin Hood. Students will compare and contrast the book with the cartoon version of Robin Hood.


Math: This week in math we will continue our measurement unit. Students will multiply, divide and work with fractions of measures.

Science: We will begin our electricity unit. We will focus on parallel and series circuits as well as conductors and insulators.

History: In history this week we will continue our unit on African kingdoms. Students will learn about the Trans-Saharan trade routes that connected various empires, as well as learning about important empires in Africa.

Dear 4th Grade Parents,

We hope you all had a wonderful break! We are excited to get the third quarter started. This week is the culmination of our 4th Grade Project. Students will be reciting Paul Revere’s Ride, and we are eager to see how diligently they have been working. We are looking forward to another exciting quarter!

Academics this week:

Language Arts:

  • Writing/Grammar:  This week in grammar, we will be reviewing parts of speech and will begin diagramming sentences.

  • Literature: This week in literature, we will continue to read Robin Hood. We will also be reciting Paul Revere’s Ride on Monday, January 7th, through Wednesday, January 9th.


Math: This week in math we will start our measurements unit. Students will review different unit relationships, convert from larger to smaller units, convert from smaller units to larger units and add and subtract measures.

Science: We will begin our electricity unit. We will work with circuits and exploring wires, batteries and bulbs.

History: In history this week we will be starting our unit on African Kingdoms. We will focus on the geography of Africa and the Kingdoms of the Kush and Aksum Empires.
