Week 7

Dear 4th Grade Parents,

Welcome to week 7! We hope everyone had a great weekend and hope that you were able to get outside and enjoy this beautiful weather before we get too hot! We have another exciting week ahead of us.  

Upcoming Dates

    • Apr 1-30 - Spring Showers
    • Apr 26 - April Birthday Book Club
    • May 6-9 - Teacher Appreciation week

Academics this week:

Language Arts:

  • Writing/Grammar:  This week, we will begin to work on the American Revolutionary Figure essay in class. They should be finishing up reading their sources so they are ready to write their first few paragraphs in class on Thursday and Friday.

  • This week in literature, we will continue reading Mr. Bowditch chapters 20-22. Students will create their own ship log to better understand the duties of Captain Bowditch and his crew.

Science: We will continue our study of the respiratory system and focus on the path that air takes as well as the main components of the system.  

Math:  This week we will learn about subtracting 1 and 2 place decimals as well as estimation and decimal word problems.

History:  We will continue our American Revolution unit and focus on the rise of the French and British Empires in North America. We will discuss the importance of the French and Indian War and the impact it had on the colonies.

Week 6

Dear 4th Grade Parents,

We hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend. This week we will have our second AzMerit test on Tuesday.. Please make sure your child gets plenty of sleep on Monday night and eats a nutritious breakfast on Tuesday.

Academics this week:

Language Arts:

  • Writing/Grammar:  This week, students will begin their Revolutionary War research project. Please be sure to check homework folders for a timeline and rubric to help your scholar find sources.

  • This week in literature, we will continue reading Mr. Bowditch and discuss key vocabulary words as well as the character development.

Science: We will take our plants and flowers quiz on Wednesday and then begin our unit on the respiratory system.

Math:  This week we will take our area and perimeter quiz on Tuesday and then begin adding and subtracting decimals.

History:  We will begin our unit on the American Revolution and begin learning about the 13 Colonies in the 1700s.

Dear 4th Grade Parents,

We hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Thank you to everyone who came to the Spring Music Concert! The performance was very well done and everyone should be very proud of their accomplishments. This week we begin our AZMerit testing on Tuesday. Please ensure your child get plenty of sleep Monday night and eats a healthy breakfast on Tuesday morning.

Academics this week:

Language Arts:

  • Writing/Grammar:  This week we will Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events. We will also focus on using dialogue and description to develop experiences and events or show the responses of characters to situations.

  • This week in literature, we will continue reading Mr. Bowditch. We will also review reading and comprehension skills to prepare for AZ Merit.

Science: We will continue our study of plants including a more in depth look at photosynthesis.

Math:  This week in math, we’ll spend one more day reviewing for the geometry unit exam, which will take place on Wednesday. After that, we’ll begin a short unit covering area and perimeter.

History:  We will continue our Arizona history unit. We will focus on the rise to statehood and the interactions with Mexico that let to AZ becoming a US territory.
